Welcome to Safer Communities Ministry
Bringing
LIFE SKILLS, DELIVERANCE
and HOPE to inmates,
ex-offenders, those suffering from addictions and
their families through volunteers who believe in the
power of the gospel of Jesus Christ!
Our vision is to build safer communities by transforming the lives of prisoners and ex-offenders. Our communities will be much safer when the broken find healing, takers become givers, and tax liabilities become tax payers and law abiding citizens.
Please browse our web pages for additional information about our ministry and programs, SCM news and events, and fundraising efforts. Volunteer opportunities abound in all our programs.
Fundraising
Safer Communities Ministry has a July 1, 2010 - June 30, 2011 Fiscal Year budget goal of $157,794 including funds designated for the SCREEN program. Help us reach our goal my making a generous individual/family or BUSINESS donation. The challenge of achieving a safer community requires significant resources. Your gift of any amount is appreciated. Concerned and caring people help us build safer communities as God transforms the lives of former law breakers. Through the years, Safer Communities Ministry (formerely Covenant Prison Ministries) has labored to develop areas of ministry to fulfill its mission to exhort, equip, and mobilize our partners to be more effective in changing the lives of prisoners, ex-offenders, and their families. Please continue to remember Safer Communities Ministry in your prayers and finances as we partner with churches, religious organizations, community and government service providers, businesses, and civic groups to decrease the recidivism rate.
2009 Annual Budget Banquet Report
Safer Communities Ministry's Launch Out Into the Deep! banquet held at on April 24, 2010 in the Family Life Center at First Baptist Church of Indian Trail (FBCIT) was a huge success. Over 200 people came to hear about our ministry and its latest venture of Addiction Recovery. Keynote speaker Dr. Maurice Hensen, Associate Pastor of FBCIT, provided a deep insight to successful recovery from addiction as he mixed his testimony of being raised in a home where addiction caused turmoil, with scriptures that point to Jesus Christ as the true addiction breaker. Other personal testimonies all pointed to Jesus as being the ultimate source that can set one free from addiction and all sin. Song and prayer reinforced the banquet's theme. Of course, the food and service was excellent.
John Hurley, CEO of American Burglar Alarms/Intelligent Home & Business, hosted the event and several business and personal supporters bought banquet sponsorships that allowed many in the community to attend and become acquainted with SCM's ministries in addition to addiction recovery. More sponsorships were bought in 2010 than for any previous annual banquet.
